Class Descriptions

Flat Classes

 

Class 1: Assisted Walk/Trot Flat: Open to riders in their first two years of riding lessons. Open to any age, grades K-5th and that

have not shown in any classes at any horse show where they were unassisted. The horse/pony can be on a lead line. Handlers must be with the pony/horse at all times.

 

Class 2: Beginner Walk/Trot Flat Open to riders in their first three years of taking riding lessons. Open to any age, grades K-5th Riders may not have shown in any class where they were asked to canter or to jump. These riders should be learning diagonals, or know diagonals. This class may be split (at judge’s discretion) to groups of 6 riders or less. Riders may be required to halt, demonstrate two-point position, and sitting trot.

 

Class 3: Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter Flat. Open to riders in their second or third year of taking riding lessons. Open to any age, grades K-5th. Riders must have not shown at any show over jumps higher than 18 inches. These riders should know their diagonals, and know their leads at canter. These riders should be able to safely steer and perform gaits in a class of at least 6 riders at the trot. This class will canter one at a time and only one direction. Riders may be required to halt, demonstrate two point, and sitting trot.

Class 4: Intermediate Beginner Flat.  Open to riders in their first or second year of showing. Open to any age, grades K-5th and to riders that have not shown over fences higher than 2 feet at any show. These riders should be capable of performing all three gaits.  These riders will be asked to canter one at a time,  both directions.   Riders may be asked to halt, demonstrate sitting and posting trot.

Class 5: Advanced Beginner Flat.  Open to riders in their second or third year of showing. Open to any age, grades K-5th which have not shown over fences higher than 2’6 at any show. These riders should be able to perform all three gaits, should be able to drop stirrups at the judge’s request at the walk, sitting trot and posting trot. Riders may be asked to demonstrate two point, halt, and sitting trot.

Class 11 Lead Line:  Open to riders age 2 to7 years old who have never shown in any class other than lead line at the walk. This class does count for individual points and is, therefore, pinned as a normal class.  Riders points will count towards team points or totals and coaches must name a point rider for leadline.  Riders must be registered members with a team.

Over Fence Classes

Class 6: Assisted Walk/Trot O/F.  Open to riders in their first two years of taking riding lessons. Open to any age, grades K-5th.

This class is assisted. The horse/pony can be on a lead line. Handlers must be with the pony/horse at all times. Riders will be required to trot over two ground poles, in one single line.

Class 7: Beginner Walk/Trot O/F. Open to riders in their first three years of taking riding lessons. Open to any age, grades K-5th.

This class is un-assisted. These riders should be learning diagonals, or know diagonals. Riders must not have shown in any class where they were asked to canter or jump. Riders will be required to trot over four ground poles, on two outside lines and must be able to two- point over ground poles.

Class 8: Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter O/F.  Open to riders in their second or third year of taking riding lessons. Open to any age, grades K-5th. These riders should know their diagonals, and know their leads at canter. Riders will be required to trot or canter over four 12 inch x-rails with no flower boxes or fill.

Class 9: Intermediate Beginner O/F.  Open to riders in their first or second year of showing. Open to any age, grades K-5th. Riders will be required to perform at the trot or canter, over a minimum course of six, 18 inch X-Rails (may contain flower boxes or brush) with a change of direction and a diagonal line.

Class 10: Advanced Beginner O/F.  Open to riders in their second or third year of showing. Open to any age, grades K-5th. Open to any age, grades K-5th which have not shown over fences higher than 2’6 at any show. .  Riders will be required to canter a course of a minimum of eight, 18” verticals, with two changes of direction. Jumps may contain flower boxes, brush, and small gates. There will be NO solid walls, coops, roll tops, etc.

Class 12 Lead Line over poles:       Open to riders age 2 to7 years old who have never shown in any class other than lead line at the walk. This class does count for individual points and is, therefore, pinned as a normal class.  Riders points will count towards team points or totals and coaches must name a point rider for leadline.  Riders must be registered members with a team. Children will compete over two poles on course.  They should demonstrate two point over the poles.
